“As a dermatologist, scars are one of, if not the most, prevalent concerns I treat everyday in my clinic. Whether it is from post procedures, cuts and scrapes or even post blemish, really after any trauma to the skin, my patients always want to know how they can help diminish the look of scars. I wanted to create a convenient, easy to use and elegant scar solution that encourages someone to use consistently to really target the look of scars.” - Dr. Sam Ellis
Traditionally, a physician may recommend a silicone gel sheeting for most optimal results as well as silicone gels. But these formats often are not the most convenient, and are harder to reapply and use consistently. Introducing Prequel’s newest addition to our solution-focused assortment, the Scar Solutions Silicone Scar Stick.
When the body undergoes trauma, a scar can form. There are many different types of scars. The appearance of a scar is determined by so many factors that we can’t control (genetics, body location, nature of the original skin injury, etc.) but one thing we can control is how we care for our skin. There are easy things everyone can do at home to help optimize the appearance of their scars. A well known and clinically tested way to target the look of scars is with silicone.
Silicone has the most data for optimizing how your scar heals. It is known to promote the restoration of skin skin integrity, optically reduces discoloration and essentially “remodel” skin texture. It is not a complete guarantee that the full scar appearance will be alleviated but you can promote an improved overall appearance by helping to enhance the body's natural healing process.
What Types of Scars Can the Silicone Scar Stick Be Used For?
Our Scar Solutions Silicone Scar Stick is a targeted and convenient stick formula that optically reduces red and healing scars, stretch marks and post blemish marks. It is formulated for all skin types but we recommend checking with your physician to confirm appropriate start time of application if a surgical suturing procedure has been completed to ensure coordination with the natural skin healing process.
Silicone Scar Stick Benefits
- Silicone is an effective way to help improve the final visual presence of new scars.
- Silicone forms a protective barrier which works to help retain moisture and regulate the production of collagen. This prevents excessive scar tissue formation, resulting in softer, smoother and less visible scars over time.
- Silicone can also be applied to temporarily help the look of old scars.
- The targeted stick format is the perfect consistency. It’s not too hard or waxy but not too stiff. It forms a protective shield on the skin without feeling sticky, greasy or goopy.
- Our formula is fragrance free and allergy tested to reduce any potential for sensitivity.
How Long Will it Take to See Visual Improvements?
When it comes to new scars, consistent care is crucial to see visual improvements. What makes this stick special is the convenient format. You can easily target direct application to the affected area no matter how small or large and can reapply as needed. By simply rubbing the stick back and forth gently on the scar, it applies a layer of silicone that stays on the skin while keeping the skin moist. This is crucial as it supports the body's own natural healing process.
More importantly, it also allows for manual scar massage that helps reduce scar thickness or what is medically referred to as keloid. A keloid is an abnormal proliferation of scar tissue that forms at the site of cutaneous injury (eg, on the site of a surgical incision or trauma); it does not regress and can grow beyond the original margins of the scar. Keloids can be lumpy or ridged, and can appear after any type of skin injury, such as a burn, cut, acne, surgery, or body piercing.
Intentionally massaging this stick onto the skin can help to reduce excessive collagen deposition, thereby minimizing the appearance of scars. When treating a scar, especially a fresh one, manual massage can help tremendously.

How To Use the Silicone Scar Stick
Gently massage the stick onto clean, dry skin to apply a generous layer on the affected area. Incredibly important to follow with a sunscreen application. For best results, use several times a day for 8-12 weeks or until visual results are achieved.
What Step Should the Silicone Solutions Scar Stick Be Used If Using As a Part of a Skincare Routine?
If using on the face, use the Silicone Scar Stick after your SPF, before makeup (in the morning). The order of application would essentially be cleanser, serums or moisturizer, sunscreen in the AM (let dry a bit), then apply the scar stick almost like a primer, then foundation if you are wearing makeup. For nighttime use when a scar is healing, apply also as the last step per directions above.
How Does the Silicone Scar Stick Work for New Scars Vs. Old Scars?
You can use the Silicone Scar Stick on both new and past scars. When using post procedure, please consult with your physician. It can also be used on post-acne marks and even bug bites. One additional trick of the trade is to use it on skin under makeup to help smooth pores and texture.
Glide the stick on clean dry skin and reapply throughout the day. For scar management, consistency is key. You will want to use this 3-5 times a day for 8-12 weeks. if not more. It provides a very comfortable occlusive layer on the skin.
The Silicone Scar Stick leaves a smooth, soft, matte finish without feeling heavy or leaving residue on the skin. It feels great on the skin and deposits an even layer of silicone over the scar.
Your physician can offer advice on expectations for visual scar improvements based on when a scar occurred and its recovery process. That being said, the ideal time for any recommended cosmetic scar treatment is when the injury opening has healed and you are in a “protective” mode stage of the recovery. The more you can give any scar a protective environment for recovery is ideal for the best visual end result.
For older scars that have already gone through the natural skin recovery process but are still appearing, you can temporarily improve the look by softening any redness or uneven texture with this silicone stick. Similar to a primer prepping the complexion for makeup, this silicone application can soften the look and even the skin.
