The skin barrier is the outermost layer of the skin, responsible for keeping moisture in and harmful elements out. It is often described as having a brick and mortar structure with skin cells embedded in a lipid matrix that limits penetration of allergens, pollution, and microbes while helping skin retain its moisture content. When this barrier is compromised, skin can become dry, sensitive, and prone to irritation. It can also lead to skin concern flare ups such as eczema and rosacea. Here's a list of ingredients known for their ability to help rejuvenate the skin barrier.
Sensitive skin is a type that reacts easily to various external and internal factors, often resulting in irritation or inflammation. Common symptoms include redness, itching, burning, stinging sensations, dryness, flakiness, and rash-like bumps. Those with sensitive skin may also experience allergic reactions and feel tight or uncomfortable after using certain skincare or cosmetic products.Â
